Well, we’re four days in and I’m very far behind. I’ve realized that at this rate I’m going to have a finished novel by next November. Will I keep doing it? Yes, because frankly just trying to accomplish this is something I’ve wanted to do for a while. This event gives me an excuse to try. I’m trying to write a story with the working title World Without God, that I realized will be incorporating some heavy dystopian elements from writers Orwell and Huxley. Not as original as I’d originally thought. Anyway that’s the update.
LIAM KINNON, OF TORONTO ONTARIO, I CHALLENGE YOU!
-Here’s a fun way to put off doing real work. We have a write off (wait, that’s already used for something entirely different…a creative writing off?)
We each write an opening chapter of a story in a genre of your choice (dystopian sounds good to me) and we post the results on the blog, letting people vote on which they like better. Sound like fun? Let me know.
Peace Love and Maple Syrup.
Matt
I see your challenge, and raise it to a contest.
I say this so-called creative writing off is expanded to novel length.
Here is my idea, we both write the first chapter, then let people vote. Then we both write the second chapter to the winning first chapter, then let people vote. Do you see where I’m going with this. Something tells me you’ll win, but I think we will both have fun. If you agree to this we’ll begin the challenge and possibly have a chapter written every other week or every month.
Liam
A few details to clear up before we take this up. How long is a chapter? Is this freestyle, or is there a genre to stay within? (For the record, I like freestyle better, let’s the creative juices run better.) And while I’m open to the novel idea, I doubt it will ever get finished, especially since I don’t have much time these days, and neither do you. A chapter every month is within the realm of possibility. Anyway, let me know.
Peace Love and Maple Syrup.
