Who would’ve thunk it?

A recent poll suggests that only 15 percent of Afghans want an immediate withdrawl of Canadian troops.  While just over half say that the country is headed in the right direction.  Most importantly 60 percent of Afghans have a somewhat or very positive attitude toward our troops.  It almost sounds like they like them more than we do.

This is definitely not what we’re hearing from the opposition here in Canada.  Some, like the NDP, are advocating an immediate withdrawl, which may be good for Canada but is ethically objectionable in light of where that will leave Afghanistan.

I love the response of Dawn Black, NDP defense critic.  She said that it isn’t what she’s been hearing out of Afghanistan.  Meanwhile Cpl. Rob Wright, a soldier on the ground in Afghanistan said that, “people are happy to see you” when the soldiers go out.

I think I’ll take his word for it.
