Heidi and I are currently waiting for the Eurostar from London to Paris at St. Pancras station. This trip so far has been incredible. We spent the last two days visiting the Isle of Wight. The prettiest place I’ve seen so far, and probably the most nature we will enjoy on this trip.

The island itself is quite beautiful. We went for a lovely walk across the downs and climbed a hill from which we could see the whole Isle. I will post pictures here soon.

The Hike

Probably the most amazing thing so far has been how many people have been happy to help a Canadian and American out. The best story so far has been Heidi and I trying to find a bus stop in Ventnor. The destination of our hike. We asked two different people, both of whom were quite helpful, and discovered that not only had we walked past the bus stop twice, but we had stopped in the landmark for the bus stop on our way in. The second shopkeeper we asked even stopped by once we were at the bus stop to make sure we didn’t need any more help.

I think my dueling beliefs about human nature are being tested a bit on this trip. I have had what I will term a healthy paranoia bred into me over the past 23 years of my life, not without reason. But people are also often willing to help out with no possible benefit to themselves. I don’t plan to rely on this, but it is a cool thing to see and benefit from. Okay, the train is boarding soon so I’ll cut this short here. Paris here we come.
